Starting the Day Right

It has been an extremely busy week at work with an urgent project. Mix in the #momlife of athletes, 2 additional teenagers staying over, publishing a book, and preparing for a retreat – it’s a bag full of treats.

My mind was so exhausted last night that I felt the urge to cry. That was my sign – go to bed. I woke up this morning and my first few thoughts were filled with anxiety as my to do list flashed across my mind. But, I instantly caught myself and realized how horrible it is to start of the day with such negative thinking. So, I turned my thoughts around. I transformed how I started my day by simply changing what my mind was focused on.

Before I put my feet on the floor, I said “I’m thankful I have a job that helps fund so many things I love to do and allows me to contribute to people and causes I believe in. I’m thankful for the flexibility that my career offers. It’s important and HEALTHY for me to have the opportunity to stimulate my brain the way I have over the last 2 weeks. It’s temporary and it’s good for me. I’m grateful to be supporting someone different who allows me the opportunity to refine my management and people skills.” Then I made the decision to take on one task at a time without thinking of what’s next or even tomorrow.

There were recycling items I needed to throw away so I went outside because the bin was already on the curb. As I walked to the bin I looked up and the sky was absolutely incredible. It was still dark but the moon and stars were shining bright. I thought “I’m so grateful to live in a place where I can actually see the night sky.” I grew up in a city where it was a luxury to see such a clear night sky.

Everyone was still asleep. It was very quiet and still. So I decided to take a moment and acknowledge the beauty of God’s creation for a moment. I stood there – simply staring at the sky. Taking a few moments to perceive God and soak Him in refreshed my soul and empowered me to continue on with my day – anxiety free – stress free.

Pressure isn’t always bad, but how we handle the pressure matters.

We all face struggles. Sometimes those struggles become overwhelming and create a lot of noise in our heads, making it difficult to figure things out. Taking the time to settle your mind, soul, and heart for a few minutes can really be the shift you need to change your life.

Be encouraged. Your Creator, Your Father is with you – guiding you in love. Take the moments necessary to tune in and listen. You’ll be amazed how His words melt your heart and calm the storm in your soul. He is the peacemaker. 💕
